چکیده

Recently, we performed a contrast-enhanced thoracic 16-channel multi-slice computed tomography (CT) with intravenous (i.v.) administration of iodixanol [Visipaque, dose 0.5 g I/kg body weight (bw)] in a 73-year old patient, suffering from multiple myeloma and chronic renal failure (calculated creatinine clearance of 23ml/min). Three days later, an unenhanced CT of the upper abdomen was performed, showing a striking enhancement of the renal parenchyma of both kidneys [mean, 142 hounsfield units (HU)] (Figure 1). No contrast excretion within the collection system was noted. Eight days later there was still residual renal cortical attenuation of both kidneys (67HU). Unenhanced CT 17 days after the first examination revealed normal findings of both kidneys with complete vanishing of the parenchymal abnormality. The baseline serum creatinine was 2.3mg/dl (202 mmol/l) and rose to 2.6mg/dl (235 mmol/l) 4 days after the administration of the contrast media. Comment

Persistent Nephrogram

An 81-year-old man with chronic kidney disease, hypertension, and aortic stenosis was admitted with a fever and nausea. Computed tomography (CT) of the abdomen with intravenous administration of iodixnanol was performed on the day of admission at another hospital (Picture 1). One day later, unenhanced CT of the abdomen was repeated, showing a striking enhancement of the renal parenchyma of both...

Extended Renal Outcomes with Use of Iodixanol versus Iohexol after Coronary Angiography

The impact of isoosmolar versus low-osmolar contrast media (CM) administration on contrast-induced acute kidney injury (CI-AKI) and extended renal dysfunction (ERD) is unclear. We retrospectively examined incidences of CI-AKI and ERD in patients who received iodixanol (isoosmolar) versus iohexol (low-osmolar) during angiography for cardiac indications. Of 713 patients, 560 (cohort A), 190 (coho...

Persistent nephrogram on abdominal radiography and computed tomography.

A 51-year-old Japanese man presenting with acute abdomen was admitted to our hospital. Contrast-enhanced computed tomography (CT) led to a diagnosis of gastroenteritis on admission (Picture 1A). Contrast-induced oliguric acute kidney injury followed by septic shock developed, and the serum creatinine level rose from 0.98 mg/dL to 5.07 mg/dL, requiring temporary hemodialysis. Kidney-shaped enhan...

There is an ongoing controversy on the impact of isoosmolar contrast agents on contrast media induced nephropathy (CIN). The COntrast Media and NephroToxicity Following Coronary Revascularization by AngioplaSTy (CONTRAST) randomized 324 patients with impaired renal function undergoing PCI to receive either the iso-osmolar contrast medium iodixanol 320 (Visipaque ) or the low-osmolar contrast me...

Iodixanol as a Gastrointestinal Contrast Media in the New Zealand White Rabbit

Determination of normal gastric emptying time and small intestinal transit time are useful in detecting gastrointestinal motility disorders and partial obstructions of the pylorus or small intestine. This study was conducted to evaluate iodixanol as a contrast agent in the gastrointestinal tract in New Zealand White rabbit. Twelve clinically healthy adult rabbits were prepared and kept for two ...
